Did you know that poet Galway Kinnell wrote a poem about imaginary friends when he was in his sixties?

April 11, 2015

In the poem, “Oatmeal,” Kinnell tells how he livens up a lonely breakfast. He invites the famous, but long-dead poet John Keats to share some imaginary conversation over porridge. There must be something about oatmeal that cries out for embellishment. Poet and writer Robert Louis Stevenson made up imaginary countries when eating the very same cereal. Just goes to show that any age is the right age for creative play!
